Glow UP

I shot Glow Up on a single roll of Super 8mm for my friend Anoop Chaganty. I approached a friend of mine who does drag at a local Houston club about doing a documentary on him getting into his outfit. I wanted it to feel personal and nostalgic, and to commemorate my sort-of introduction as a queer filmmaker (I am a recently out non-binary person). The relationship between me and the subject combined the precious feeling of hearing the super 8 run through the camera created something that I feel is really special.

Sad Orangutans Rob a Bank

Sad Orangs is a short film about a guy who, when pushed to the brink of introspection, decides to throw his energies into the craziest thing he can think of. Also he’s an Orangutan.

It played at Hollyshorts, The Hollywood Comedy Festival, The New York No Limits Festival, the Brainwash Drive-in Festival, and the Not Film festival.

THE CARRIE GRANT TRILOGY

Three short films I made with my friend Carrie Adams. There’s a lot to say about these so I’ve made them their own page.

The Cluster

I didn’t consider myself to be a documentary director when I was asked to do this project with Impact Fifth Ward, but I found the story incredibly moving, (and the lack of media coverage incredibly infuriating). I knew if they were willing to trust me with it - I had to do it. Shot in two days and edited in a week before a community meeting - The Cluster is used by Impact Fifth Ward and Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee as an introduction to advocacy efforts around Creosote contamination in Houston. It received a special commendation from the Houston Cinema Arts Festival. I’m immensely proud of it.

THOUGHT IT’D BE YOU

Nasha’s music is at once mechanical, distant, textured and personal. I wanted to reflect those contrasts in the video by using music video elements - mirrors, spotlights, variable frame rates - in natural, grounded environments. The result is (hopefully) a music video that feels modern and dream-poppy without using a ton of tricks or complicated effects.
